The purpose of this course is to help students improve their English academic and professional reading skills in the field of Communication Disorders. The course mainly focuses on developing skills and strategies for reading experimental research articles. Students practice reading for general understanding as well as for specific information. Students also practice recognizing the structure of experimental research articles and identifying whether an article is relevant for future purposes. Throughout the course, students will complete interactive tasks based on readings from the field of Communication Disorders. During the second part of the semester, students will practice summarizing research. Through an oral presentation, they will also practice mediating an experimental research article for a lay audience. This presentation will include preparing and presenting a PPT presentation.
